A Reason to Celebrate


With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching and following the discussion on gratitude in our last post there is no better time to make space in your life for celebration. Celebrating more is one of the most fun and engaging ways to be mindful, practice gratitude, and increase positivity! There are many different reasons to make celebration a regular part of your life. Taking the time to find and celebrate the joy of your daily life can have a very positive impact on your emotional well being and affect other areas of your life, such as social relationships. Let yourself get excited about things and look forward to celebrating more than just major life events that pass by, but be sure to take the time to celebrate those too!


Celebrating can increase our experience of positive emotions which makes it easier to manage stress in our lives. We feel more optimistic about our lives when we have something to look forward to, such as an upcoming reason for celebration. These things help us to develop resiliency and have more motivation for the future. When we make time for celebration it positively impacts the people around us. By taking the time to recognize and celebrate your successes, along with the smaller joys in your life, you feel happier which impacts other areas of your life and helps you in the pursuit of other goals. Celebration is not about merely rewarding yourself, but involves taking time to notice and appreciate everything that goes into your accomplishments, however big or small!


You can bring more celebration into your life in a variety of different ways. Be mindful and notice the moments in your life. Be aware of what you are proud of and what you have achieved today, give yourself space to celebrate those things. Step out of your routine and make time to recognize the good things in your life. Do something that boosts your positivity and helps you mark this time as a celebration. This could be something big or small. You could go on a coffee date with a friend, eat a special meal, light a great smelling candle, host a dinner party, or plan a trip! However you choose to celebrate, start to make it a regular part of your life. Celebrate the people in your life and all of the tiny accomplishments you reach. Consider making a list or a mental note of different activities that feel special to you. When it is time for celebration draw from these things for inspiration and enjoy the moment!
